UNION SQUARE PARTNERSHIP ANNOUNCES SCHEDULE FOR 2008 "SUMMER IN THE SQUARE"
Free Entertainment Every Thursday Afternoon in Union Square Park
New York, NY (May 28, 2008) – the Union Square Partnership and TheaterMania.com today announced the schedule for this year’s “Summer in the Square,” the free, weekly entertainment series in Union Square Park. Running every Thursday afternoon from June 19th through August 14th, the series will offer a vibrant mixture of free music, dance and theatrical performances and yoga (Schedule follows).
Highlighting this year’s schedule is children’s programming. Beginning June 26th and running each Thursday, Barnes & Noble–Union Square will host kids’ book readings at 12:00 PM, then “Kids in the Square” kicks off in the Park at 12:30 PM, featuring kid-friendly music, dance performances, caricature artists, face-painting and puppeteers.
The Union Square Partnership’s popular “Yoga in the Square” begins at 3:00 p.m. with classes open to all ages and abilities. These sessions, led by Union Square-based studios including, East West Yoga, OM Yoga, and Tao Yoga are sure to relax and rejuvenate participants. It is also the perfect opportunity to admire the beauty and serenity of the park.
The festivities continue with “Music in the Square” at 5:30 p.m. as musicians whose genres range from jazz to pop-rock showcase electrify the Park with live performances. Other performances include a jazz series presented by JVC Jazz and an Off-Broadway Review presented by TheaterMania.com.
