Famous Israeli Chef and Breads Bakery Founder Team Up, Open Nur
Chef Meir Adoni Brings His Middle Eastern Flavors to Union Square, Opening Friday
Israeli Celebrity Chef Meir Adoni and Union Square's own Breads Bakery Founder Gadi Peleg have joined forces to bring a modern Middle Eastern experience to the Manhattan dining scene with the opening of Nur.
Over the past few months, Union Square has been anxiously awaiting the opening of Adoni's first Manhattan (and United States) restaurant, following him shopping at the Union Square Greenmarket on Instagram.
The menu at Nur draws from the rich and flavorful cuisine of the Middle East, taking a modern, bold and playful take on the dishes of the region. The menu is designed for sharing and provides guests with the opportunity to travel the culinary world of the Middle East through their taste buds.
Signature dishes includeFluke Kibbeh Nayeh featuring bulgar, harissa, yogurt, fresh herbs, black Persian lemon powder with a side of gazpacho; Horias from the Alleys of Nablus lamb kebab grilled in pita with pine, nuts, eggplant and amba. See the full menu here.
We had a chance to try the mouth-watering Kubaneh, traditional Yemenite bread, dipped in Smoked Eggplant Carpaccio with fire roasted feta, and Adoni's take on Tershi, a traditional Libyan pumpkin dip but Nur's version includes eggplant and Harissa. Our advice? Don't pass these flavors up, and come hungry.
Nur is located at 34 East 20th Street between Park Avenue and Broadway). Call 212.505.3420 or visit www.nurnyc.com for more information or reservations.
