Carlina Rivera Sworn in to NYC Council
On Sunday, January 21st, Carlina Rivera was sworn in as the representative of Council District 2. Her district includes a diverse array of neighborhoods, including Union Square, the East Village, Flatiron, Gramercy Park, Rose Hill, Kips Bay, Murray Hill, and the Lower East Side.
The inauguration ceremony took place at Middle Collegiate Church on Second Avenue. Speakers and included outgoing Council Member Rosie Mendez, Comptroller Scott Stringer, Public Advocate Letitia James, and Damarls Reyes, Executive Director of Good Old Lower East Side.
Additional local dignitaries in attendance included NY State Senator Brad Hoylman, Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, NY State Assembly Member Deborah Glick, and City Council Speaker Corey Johnson, and a long list of her fellow Council Members from across the city.
Council Member Rivera most recently served as Legislative Director to former Council Member Rosie Mendez and previously served as Director of Programs and Services at Good Old Lower East Side (GOLES), a local non-profit focused on supporting local community issues.
