The spring and summer are some of the busiest months for the Union Square Partnership. Not only is the USP team working hard to bring you community events like It's My Park! Day and Citi Summer in the Squarebut our USP Clean Team and landscaping crews have worked to make an impact on the neighborhood during these past few months to ensure our neighborhood is beautiful, clean, and vibrant for the summer season ahead.

A Clean Seat

Pick up lunch, choose your seating area, and take a seat in our signature lime green bistro furniture. USP purchases and stores the furniture all winter long, and our Clean Team gives the tables and chairs a deep-clean at the start of the season. They work to set up the seating daily and lock it up each night, keeping the equipment in great condition for the community to enjoy. Give them a wave if you see them outside maintaining the furniture!

Beautiful Blooms

All season long, USP's landscaping crew has been planting fresh flowers and lush greenery along the park's pathways and monuments. Look for colorful flowers in 90 planters throughout the neighborhood, along 17th Street, our Broadway Pedestrian Plaza, and in hanging baskets on light poles. Look up when crossing along Union Square East to see 80 columnar trees towering in our median malls (planted in 2016), and the fresh understory plantings, brightening the East side of the park.

New West Side Seating

In addition to cleaning, maintaining, and setting up bistro furniture in seating areas on the Center Lawn, the West Side, the James Fountain, and the Broadway Plaza, enjoy the sunshine in our newest West Side Seating Area (at the 15th Street Transverse and Union Square West). USP Director of Operations Tom Dirusso and Operations Manager McLawrence Glynn, as well as USP's Streetplus Clean Team worked to install new stone screening, plant new bushes, flowers, and shrubs decorating the edges of the area, build out a new irrigation system to keep the plants lush and green, plus install and maintain our signature bistro furniture and teal umbrellas in the new seating area. Since opening, the seating area has been extremely popular. This project could not have been completed without the support of the NYC Parks, with special thanks to Barbara Vaccaro, Brad Romaker, and Mercedes Nunez.

A Fresh Coat

After this year's rough winter weather, the USP Clean Team added a fresh coat of paint to the neighborhood. They worked hard to repaint fences, tree guards, lampposts, mailboxes, and other street elements, as well as removed any graffiti from public amenities.

New Shades

This summer is quickly heating up, but we've got you covered! Enjoy the shade of our brand new umbrellas as you sit in one of our many bistro seating areas throughout the park and the Broadway Pedestrian Plaza.

#USQSummer Banners

This summer, look up to spot the bright teal and purple pops of color on our lamp post banners all over the neighborhood. What better way to tie together the district than with colorful banners showcasing the support of our neighborhood partners? These banners serve as a welcome to the community, and as a reminder for our summer-long event series Citi Summer in the Square. Join us in Union Square Park for free fitness, kids', and performance events every Thursday from June 14th - August 9th.

We can't do it alone! Our spring + summer work would not be possible without the support of our neighborhood partners. Thank you to the long list of partners who support our work through our fall fundraising event Harvest in the Square.
