New! This Year at Citi Summer in the Square
The Union Square Partnership’s free community programming series Summer in the Square is BACK June 13th! In addition to all of the fun that’s been a part of the program for over 40 years, new partners and elements have been added for summer 2019. Read on for highlights on new activities and celebrations you can enjoy all summer long in Union Square Park.

Chess at Three (thu, 12 pm, south plaza)
Inspiring kids to play and love chess through storytelling, Chess at Three uses creatively crafted stories to explain why pieces move the way they do. By bringing the game to life Thursdays on the South Plaza, kids of all ages and experience levels can engage with the game and learn new skills alongside the chess characters.
SOCCER SHOTS (THU, 4 PM, NORTH PLAZA)
Get ready for an active summer with Soccer Shots. We’re bringing this successful kids soccer program back with a brand new partner! The skilled coaches at Soccer Shots are rolling out classes on the North Plaza for practice drills, scoring, and the basics of soccer. With the mission to positively impact children’s lives, the specially designed curricula provides growth through an emphasis on character development and skill building while having an endless amount of fun.
corepower yoga (thu, 7 am south plaza)
Wake up with a morning yoga session by CorePower Yoga every Thursday morning this summer! Their unique practice combines yoga basics with strength training, so bring friends and come ready to sweat. The first 20 attendees at the 7:00 AM class, and the first 25 attendees for the 7:30 PM class will receive a free Union Square mat to use and take home.
Throwdown NYC (Thu, 8 AM, South Plaza)
#USQSummer is heating up with brand new morning workouts from Throwdown NYC. Come out for Boxing HIIT Cardio classes every Thursday at 8 AM on the South Plaza. Aiming to build a strong community that empowers, educates, and enlightens every kind of person, their trainers will teach you how to defend yourselves and pursue fitness goals with plenty of fun and laughter all around.
New! Pride Week Celebrations
Screaming Queens (thu, Jun 27, 5 PM, South Plaza)
This summer, WorldPride comes to NYC to mark the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising. Join us as we celebrate Pride Week with a special Dueling Drag Queen Performance by the Screaming Queens, a boutique entertainment company providing drag queens, impersonators, colorful theme characters, Strolling Tables, and offbeat cabaret artists. Join in on the performance by cheering for your favorite queen to win the title “Miss Citi Summer in the Square 2019”!
Drag Queen Story Hour (Thu, Jun 27, 2:30 PM, South Plaza
Don’t miss a special kids edition of Drag Queen Story Hour, taking place during our regularly scheduled Story Time on June 27th at 2:30 PM. Join us in the Children’s Pavilion for special Pride Week stories, sing-a-longs, and craft activities. This program is designed to teach children about gender diversity and differences, build empathy, teach tolerance, and help prevent bullying. Bring kids to learn something new through entertainment and activities all in celebration of WorldPride this summer!
PrideFest 2019 (Sun, Jun 30, 11 AM, Fourth Avenue)
Keep the Pride Week Celebrations going all through the weekend! Stick around in Union Square for PrideFest, the annual LGBTQ+ street festival featuring live performances, activities, food, and of course pride gear. More info on PrideFest 2019 here.

Expanded hydration Stations (thu, 7 am - 8:30 pm, north and south plazas)
Bring your reusable water bottle and stay hydrated all summer long, with TWO Hydration Stations, presented by Nuun Hydration. We’re bringing back our successful South Plaza Hydration Station Thursdays 7 AM - 6 PM, and this year adding a second station on the North Plaza Thursdays 7 AM - 8:30 PM. While supplies last, pick up a free reusable bottle at the Union Square Partnership Info Booth.
