35th Annual Meeting Celebrates Neighborhood Success + Community Engagement
On Monday, May 6, 2019, over 250 area residents, business and property owners, and key stakeholders gathered together for USP’s 35th Annual Meeting + Networking Reception at the W New York–Union Square. USP’s Executive Director Jennifer Falk presented an overview of our contributions to the neighborhood over the past year. From beautifying Union Square Park and the surrounding district to supporting community partners and local businesses, we continue to play a multifaceted role in shaping and elevating the experience of everyone who lives, works, and visits Union Square. In addition to our core services including sanitation, public safety, marketing + events, and economic development, this year we worked closely with our community to examine how to best meet the area’s evolving needs and positively transform our community for years to come, through a comprehensive Visioning + Planning initiative.

At this year’s meeting, USP was thrilled to welcome special guest speaker, The New School’s President David Van Zandt. To kick off the program, he shared his thoughts on The New School’s centennial celebration year, and spoke on his tenure as president and the university’s long history with the Union Square Partnership. USP also presented President Van Zandt with our annual Norman Buchbinder Community Service Award in honor of his decade of service to The New School and the important role he has played within our community.
Annual Meeting attendees next heard a review of USP’s year-to-date financials including our fiscal year 2020 budget, from our treasurer Kenneth Salzman. USP’s secretary Jordan Brackett presented the new Slate of Directors, and eligible members voted to approve the 2019-2020 Board of Directors.
The meeting was followed by a networking reception, sponsored by the W New York-Union Square, where attendees enjoyed drinks and refreshments alongside a live jazz performance by The New School Jazz Trio.
