Neighborhood Partners Shine at Citi Summer in the Square

This year’s 30+ local neighborhood partners made our 2019 #USQSummer the best yet. Check out the new programs, special celebrations, added event elements, and tried-and-true favorites that made this year spectacular.

Hotter Than Summer Fitness Classes

Our morning workouts pumped up the South Plaza with brand new yoga and boxing classes by local studios CorePower Yoga and Throwdown NYC. Peaceful Tai Chi classes led by the 14th Street Y successfully rounded out our AM fitness program for the second year in a row. Paragon Sports and New York Health and Racquet Club led four evening sweat sessions including Dance Cardio, Run Club, Cardio HIIT, and Sunset Yoga.

Next-Level Kids Games

In addition to our packed lineup of children’s programming, we welcomed brand new kids activities with Chess at Three and Soccer Shots. These two new partners infused storytelling, singing, and dancing into classic games chess and soccer.

26,000+ bottles filled this summer

Through a new partnership with Nuun Hydration, USP brought two Hydration Stations out to Union Square Park this summer. Located on the North and South plazas, both event attendees and park-goers were able to refill water bottles with fresh, cold NYC tap water. Over the eight weeks of Citi Summer in the Square, this campaign diverted over 26,000 plastic water bottles from landfills and hydrated the neighborhood.

over 2.2K usq summer pride event attendees

Citi Summer in the Square celebrated World Pride this June with special performances and a children’s story hour. Located in the Children’s Pavilion, Drag Queen Story Hour led Pride Week stories, sing-a-longs, and craft activities that helped kids learn about gender diversity and differences. With over 800 attendees, the dueling drag queen performance by the Screaming Queens was a crowd favorite. Watching three talented Queens battle for the title of “Miss Citi Summer in the Square,” onlookers were able to vote for their favorite performers through cheers.

Thanks to all the community partners and sponsors that helped make Citi Summer in the Square 2019 possible. To view all event photos from this year, check out our online photo album here.
