What is a BID?

A Business Improvement District (BID) is a public/private partnership in which residents, property owners, and business owners elect to make a collective contribution to the maintenance, development, and promotion of their commercial district. BIDs deliver supplemental services such as sanitation, public safety, marketing & branding, beautification, and street improvements to a neighborhood. The result is a cleaner, safer, and more welcoming environment for shoppers, residents, and visitors. New York City currently has 78 Business Improvement Districts (BIDs), which have improved neighborhoods across the City.

About Union Square Partnership (USP)

Union Square Partnership is a community-based 501(c)3 organization created more than 40 years ago to promote, preserve, and progress its vibrant namesake neighborhood. We cultivate a welcoming, diverse community and work to enhance livability, ensuring residents, workers, and visitors can enjoy the time they spend in our neighborhood — and feel compelled to come back, set up shop, or even call it home. We foster a thriving economy, helping create a district that amplifies exciting new businesses and iconic brands, invests in public art, events, and local hidden gems, and acts as a transit hub and a place to explore. As stewards of Union Square Park, we understand the park’s role in strengthening the surrounding neighborhood and aim to extend that experience throughout the community. In the square, history and history-making go hand in hand. And we celebrate that, embracing and evolving the distinct, one-of-a-kind reputation of Union Square every day.

Enhancing Livability in USQ

We are committed to keeping Union Square clean, safe, and beautiful. Our Clean Team, Public Safety Officers, landscapers, and community partners are vital to this work.

Making USQ The Place to Be

We work to make Union Square NYC's premier destination to live, work, play, and learn, building a dynamic and desirable neighborhood through community events, public art, and vibrant retail experiences.

Fostering a Thriving Economy in USQ

In Union Square, we’re working to build a thriving and inclusive economy. Union Square Partnership promotes new businesses, provides market insights, enhances public spaces, and plans for long-term capital improvements. These efforts create a positive ripple effect, encouraging private investment, business growth, job creation, and neighborhood development.
