Pull Up a Chair (Literally)

Union Square Park offers a variety of permanent benches and seating areas year-round, but from April through October, the park comes alive with something a little more special. Bistro tables and chairs provided by Union Square Partnership are set out daily, creating some of the park’s most popular gathering spots. Whether you're meeting a friend for lunch or taking a solo break with a coffee and a book, these flexible seating areas offer the perfect place to pause, relax, and take in the city.

Children Playing at Evelyn's Playground

A Beloved Playground for All Ages

Find Evelyn's Playground within Union Square Park, at Union Square West & East 16th Street. This expansive 30,000 square foot haven for children offers something for every age. Older kids will love the climbing structures, slides, monkey bars, and a splash fountain. For little ones, a dedicated section provides swings, slides, and a sandbox made just for them. It’s the perfect spot for active family fun, just steps from the Greenmarket (on select days) for convenient snacks.

Pups Play Here

For our four-legged friends, the Dog Run is a central destination within Union Square Park, near 15th Street & Union Square West. This popular, fenced-in area offers dogs a chance to play and socialize off-leash on a durable surface. Owners can relax on benches while their pups enjoy the space. Be sure to review all rules and regulations before your visit at the NYC Parks Dog Areas page.

Lively Plazas & Events

Union Square’s plazas are some of the most active public spaces in the city. They're home to the well-loved GrowNYC Greenmarket, which brings local farmers and producers to the square four days a week, and the seasonal Urbanspace Holiday Market, offering curated gifts, food, and experiences throughout the winter.

Interested in hosting your event or activation in the park? A park permit is required—you can start the process through the NYC Parks Department.
